An Oahu-based group of investors has pulled permits for demolition of the former Coco Palms Hotel, with plans to rebuild within the next 24 months, according to a recent article in The Garden Island Newspaper. The investor group – Cocopalms Hui LLC, will be submitting building plans to re-construct the hotel within the existing square footage. Established in 1925 as a 24-room hotel, by the mid 1980s the resort had grown to 393 rooms. The structures were severely damaged during Hurricane Iniki in 1992. Famous as a location for the filming of Elvis Presley’s, “Blue Hawaii” in 1961, the resort drew famous guests from all over the world, including Hawaiian Olympic swimming champion, Duke Kahanamoku, The Von Trapp Family Singers, Bing Crosby and the Prince and Princess of Japan.
