Kauai Bon Summer Bon Dances

Event Description

Eight communities on Kauai schedule Bon Dances on weekends from mid June through the first week of August. This colorful and fascinating celebration is in memory and to honor the departed. It includes dancing, music, candle-lighting, and other traditions. This year, with caution about COVID-10, events will be held virtually, with the first one taking place on June 18-20 in Hanapepe at at the Kauai Zoto Zensiuji Temple. Enjoy observing this tradition virtually through kauaisotozen.org, or through Facebook and YouTube. In 2022 live events will return where visitors are invited to attend and participate as well as sample a wonderful variety of traditional foods.

June 18 & 19 – Kauai Soto Zen Temple, Hanapepe Town
June 25 & 26 – Koloa Jodo Mission
July 2 & 3 – No Bon Dance
July 9 & 10 – West Kauai Hongwanji Mission
July 16 & 17 – Lihue Hongwanji Mission
July 23 & 24 – Waimea Shingon Mission, Waimea Valley
July 30 & 31 – Kapaa Jodo Mission, Kapaa
