Event Description

Plan an extraordinary evening of time-honored music by Henry Kapono, often named as Entertainer of the Year in Hawaii; on September 9th starting at 6 p.m. at the Anaiana Hou Porter Pavilion in Kilauea.

Kapono is a performer who has it all – vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, composer, thrilling performer, audience favorite—and multiple honors and awards, including a Grammy nomination. He has taken home 21 Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards (Hawai‘i’s “Grammy”), including Male Vocalist of the Year, Song of the Year, Single of the Year, Album of the Year, Rock Album of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award, Best EP, Contemporary Album of the Year, Compilation of the Year, Anthology Album of the Year, and is the recipient of the 2021 Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards for Favorite Entertainer of the Year.

Kapono’s original songs with a rock vibe celebrate his love for his family, express his pride in his Hawaiian culture and share his joy for his home in the islands. He has been at the creative forefront of contemporary Hawaiian music throughout his career.

From the laid-back island rock of Cecilio & Kapono in the 70s and 80s to launching his solo career in 1981, it’s the simple honesty of his lyrics and music that touch the soul and his wildly talented guitar-playing shares his joy of being alive. Kapono has traveled the world with the innovation and creativity of music that very few artists can sustain.

A special guest is Kala’e Parish, a multi No Hoku Hanohano award-winning native Hawaiian country artist, who has been a professional musician and entertainer since 2013, performing throughout the islands and abroad.
