There are lots of options for renting bicycles on the east side. The Ke Ala Hele Makalae Kapaa bike path, recently rated by U.S.A. Today reader’s choice awards in the top five U.S., recreational trails, starts at Lihi Park in Kapaa and follows the coast north, ending at Ahihi Point, just past Donkey Beach. There is also a 2.5 mile section at Lydgate Beach Park which will eventually connect with the Kapaa section when construction is completed. This incredible path is available to walkers, joggers, roller bladders, bikers, and is safe for families and strollers. The bike path meanders along the ocean for several miles. Cruise along with great views of the Pacific, see whales breaching and spouting late fall and during winter, stop for a bite to eat or take a dip in the ocean. Rent your own bike or enjoy a guided trip.
For the more adventurous bikers, there are several trails in the area that are open to mountain biking. Enjoy the ocean views and the rush of winding down a jungle mountain. Shops can point you in the right direction or visit the State’s trail website for more information about specific trails and options.
