East Kauai Residents, Property Owners Invited to Share Their Vision of Community Oct 1st through 3rd

KAPAA, Hawaii — Kauai County’s Department of Planning invites residents and property owners of East Kauai to attend community design workshops Oct. 1 through 3.

Part of the East Kauai Community and Circulation Plan process, the workshops offer the opportunity for those who live in the community or do business in Kapaa and Wailua to share their vision for the areas’ future development and growth.

The workshops will look at the form and character of East Kauai’s town areas, focusing on topics such as housing, shared spaces, connectivity and traffic circulation, according to a release.

Participants can share their views on the desired level of change for each community and discuss strategies to preserve, enhance or transform these areas for the present and future.

Each workshop will be different, featuring opening presentations and walk audits, an open design studio, an open house and closing presentation. The schedule is as follows:

  • Oct. 1, 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex Pavilion – Opening presentation and walking tour of Kapaa-Kapahi
  • Oct. 1, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Mahelona Hospital Auditorium – Open design studio Kapaa-Kapahi
  • Oct. 2, 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Wailua Houselots Park Pavilion – Opening presentation and walking/bus tour of Wailua-Waipouli
  • Oct. 2, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Mahelona Hospital Auditorium – Open house
  • Oct. 3, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Mahelona Hospital Auditorium – Closing presentation

All who wish to participate should register in advance to help estimate attendance for each event. Note that the Oct. 2 walking and bus tour is limited to 30 seats on the bus.

After registering, you will receive detailed information about the tour bus route and recommended attire.

Workshops will be facilitated by project consultants SSFM International and sub-consultants Opticos Design.
