High Surf Warning issued for Kauai through Jan 23; Kalalau Closed

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a High Surf Warning for north and westfacing shores of Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau util 6 a.m. Monday. The warning may be extended, dropped, or modified asconditions develop.

The NWS reports dangerously large waves of up to 45 feet through the weekend. Due to the hazardous conditions, Ocean Safety Bureau officials advise no swimming at north and westfacing shores during the High Surf Warning.

Beach-goers are urged to stay out of the water and away from shorelines in these areas.
Additionally State Parks has closed the Kalalau Trail until further notice due to rising stream levels.
