Born in Hanover, Germany on April 15, 1837 Paul Isenberg came to the Hawaiian Islands in 1858. He became a prominent early Kauai sugar planter and owner of Koloa and Lihue Sugar Plantations. Mr. Isenberg was a main advocate for a plantation railroad and Paulo, the 1887 steam locomotive was named for him.
At the Locomotive Learning Park you’ll be able to take a narrated train ride along an historic locomotive right of way in one of our replica can cars, pulled by a vintage diesel locomotive. There will also be toy model train exhibits.
Self-guided tours will be offered at Grove Farm museum. In addition, there will be a ‘live’ stream model train as well as electric model train exhibits.
Also at the museum, Paulo will be on static display so you can get a close up look at this unique piece of history.
