Event Description

Every Monday at 11:30 a.m., stories and legends surrounding Polynesian voyagers are presented by Jim Jung at the Kauai Museum. These “talk story” (discussion) sessions are included in the price of admission. Jung provides detail and insight into Polynesian navigation used for thousands of years for long voyages across thousands of miles in the open Pacific. Navigators traveled to small inhabited islands using way-finding techniques. Polynesian voyagers were the first human settlers in the Hawaiian islands. At 10:30 a.m. Jung also holds a “talk story” session about Cleopatra’s Barge, a royal yacht commissioned by King Kamehmeha II.

For more than 55 years, the Kauaʻi Museum has preserved the rich history of Kauai, Niihau and its people. Today, the Kauai Museum houses cultural treasures, works of art and priceless artifacts that exist nowhere else in the world.
