Update Information about Hurricane Calvin

According to the New York Time, Monday:

A powerful hurricane that formed in the Pacific Ocean last week weakened on Sunday to a tropical storm and was expected to continue to lose strength as it approached Hawaii, forecasters said.

Tropical Storm Calvin had maximum sustained wind speeds of 45 miles per hour early Tuesday, forecasters said. It had weakened from a Category 3 hurricane on Friday night to a Category 2 on Saturday. Forecasters said it was expected to continue to gradually weaken through Thursday.

The storm was moving west at 22 m.p.h. toward Hawaii and was expected to move in that same direction over the next few days, the National Hurricane Center and the Central Pacific Hurricane Center said.

It was about 465 miles from Hilo on the northeastern coast of the Big Island of Hawaii early Tuesday.

According to the New York Times, Sunday:

The storm is expected to continue to weaken before passing near or over the Big Island of Hawaii on Wednesday, forecasters said.

A powerful hurricane that formed in the Pacific Ocean this week weakened on Saturday and is expected to continue to lose strength before coming close to Hawaii, forecasters said.

The storm, Hurricane Calvin, had maximum sustained wind speeds of 100 miles per hour on Saturday morning, forecasters said, making it a Category 2 storm. It dropped from a Category 3 on Friday night.

The storm is moving west-northwest at 16 m.p.h. toward Hawaii and is expected to move in that same direction over the next several days, the National Hurricane Center and the Central Pacific Hurricane Center said.

The storm is forecast to weaken through early next week. There were no coastal watches or warnings in effect as of Saturday.
