What’s New on the Royal Coconut Coast

Kauai’s east side resorts have completed millions of dollars worth of renovations over the past year, with more to come in 2016. Plus, six major events and festivals are slated for next June through October.

The Royal Coconut Coast area, also known as Kauai’s East Side, has seen a lot of renovation and new additions among its hotels and resorts throughout 2015 with more projects underway for 2016. This central region of Kauai also has six popular events and festivals lined up throughout the summer and fall providing food extravaganzas, Tahitian and cultural dance, world-renown jazz, a coconut festival and a writer’s conference.

In alphabetical order, the range of improvements and renovations include:

Aston Islander on the Beach has upgraded its reception and front desk area and has refreshed many of its condominium units over the past year.

Coco Palms Hotel, after 23 years of closure (since Hurricane Iniki), has launched its demolition phase after recently receiving permits from Kauai County. Plans are to re-build the resort with 331 guest rooms and 32 suites, re-opening in late 2017.

Hotel Coral Reef is undertaking an extensive $3.5 million dollar renovation, adding a third floor to it’s main ocean-front building to create eight new executive suites with master bedrooms and ocean-front lanais. The boutique hotel is also planning interior upgrades with Tommy Bahama furnishings.

Kaha Lani Resort, a condominium property located right next to the popular Lydgate Beach Park and Kamalani Playground, has replaced all pool furniture, painted its exteriors, made improvements to its tennis courts and is replacing its lanais.

Kauai Kailani completed a $4-million dollar two-year renovation project throughout its entire property in 2015, providing completely refinished and re-decorated interiors in all units, adding a recreation room and individual wi-fi in every unit. This oceanfront property features one and two-bedroom fully equipped condominiums.

Kauai Shores (formerly Kauai Sands) will wrap up an extensive all-property renovation and refurbishment project with the opening of the new Lava Lava Beach Club oceanfront restaurant along with a new lobby and guest services area in late December 2015. All rooms and grounds have been completely re-furbished and renovated with modern and colorful tropical décor and amenities.

Luau Makaiwa has opened at the Courtyard Kauai at Coconut Beach with cultural demonstrations, cocktails, food and entertainment on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. This resort’s luau is situated on an oceanfront location and offers a lot of opportunities for cultural demonstrations and displays.

Outrigger Waipouli Beach Resort & Spa has completed a number of improvements to its resort interior and outdoor areas. These include a complete upgrade of poolside furnishings with new Tropitone “padded-sling” chaise lounges and chairs, doubling the amount of shade umbrellas in a new ocean-themed teal color, installation of new solar photo voltaic panels to reduce electricity costs, and new paint and carpet throughout interior hallways.

Plantation Hale Suites wrapped up a three-year renovation project earlier in 2015, completely renovating all 85 of its guest suite living rooms and bedrooms with new furnishings, decor, paint and flooring.

Pono Kai Resort homeowners have approved a $7.9 million renovation to the resort’s condominium units that will launch in 2016. Pono Kai is situated in the heart of Kapaa town, right on the Ke Ala Hele Makalae coastal bike path.
